Life in middle America is no fairy tale. Three hopeful people try to escape their final chapter being written in a kingdom where depression, sorrow, and longing are the only laws.

Katie has come to town to save her sister like a knight in a shining Impala. She trusts a cop named Payne whose main operational currency is his namesake. He abducts her, a beast imprisoning beauty, and holds her captive in a tornado shelter beneath a wishing well.

Her sister, Sasha, lives a life after midnight. The ball is over but she still dances for men. A pumpkin seed has taken root and she questions whether she wants to see it grow into a baby and a new life with Craig, the travel agent who never leaves town.
